As York’s oldest charity, the Wilberforce Trust has been providing support for the visually impaired for over 150 years.
We are currently looking for Support Workers to provide support to our Tenants, who have visual impairments and other disabilities across our 9 Wilberforce Houses in York and Tadcaster.
The work is varied and rewarding and may typically involve co-ordinating daily activities, providing personal care, taking our tenants out on trips and activities, helping them prepare meals or coming to sensory sessions at Wilberforce House.
Experience is not essential as an induction and training programme will be provided. A caring and sensitive nature is all important, and time spent caring for family members is relevant experience for this role.
We pay £7.24 an hour for hours worked during week days, and £8.75 for all night, weekends and bank holidays. The average full time member of staff working a mixture of shifts earns approximately £16,000. Holiday entitlement is 4 weeks plus bank holidays, which increases to 5 weeks plus bank holidays, after 2 years’ service.
There are opportunities to progress within the organisation, gain recognised qualifications including NVQ level 2 to 5, and take on ‘Champion’ roles with additional responsibilities.
A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate will be required before commencing work at the Trust.
More information about the Trust and a full job description are available on our website. www.wilberforcetrust.org.uk
