Voluntary Arts
Voluntary and amateur arts groups and practitioners can now access their very own website. www.celebratenorthyorkshire.org is just one of a series of initiatives being put in place this year to support the sector.
These initiatives follow recommendations made in the 2006 feasibility study which looked into the needs of voluntary artists in York and North Yorkshire. You may have responded to a questionnaire, or been to one of the consultation meetings. Funding has come from Arts Council England and North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council.
The name Celebrate North Yorkshire was chosen to recognise and celebrate the wide variety of work produced by voluntary artists. The website will not only make groups more visible (they can have a detailed listing) but it will also carry useful information to support group and artistic development, carry out good practise and apply for funding. There will also be a central resource listing for items that could be loaned / hired, plus information on special training events, a place to market latest productions/events and a members section and links to other support networks.
At present 170 arts groups are listed on the website if you wish to know more contact volarts@gillianhowells.co.uk or ring 01748 825362. A copy of the new newsletter for voluntary arts groups 'Celebrate' is available to download below:
