- Procuring transport services: the best local authorities are developing procurement skills by harmonising leading professional and public accountability practice. This page looks at good practice in procuring transport services
- Planning for Rural Communities: examines the relationship between rural deprivation and transport, the different types and classifications of rural area and how best to plan for and work with rural areas and communities
- Securing sufficient funding: Public funding is under pressure so the role of authorities in assembling sufficient funding is becoming more important. This section looks at how to secure sufficient funding
- Sustainable rural transport: while the impacts of rural accessibility solutions are likely to be at the margins of attempts to mitigate climate change, they should not be exempt. These pages link to reports about energy issues and how they relate to rural transport.

Enterprising Approaches to Rural Community Transport
A research report and outline development Programme
With funding from the Department for Transport, Plunkett and CTA have conducted the first comprehensive research study of the sector and compiled an evidence-base of the extent to which it already uses social enterprise approaches.
The results show that almost all rural CT operators trade to some extent, but there is significant potential for them to increase their long-term sustainability by optimising multiple income streams.
The outcomes of the research, a typology of the sector and case example of enterprising rural CTOs are all part of this publication.
