ARE YOU AFFECTED BY SOMEONE ELSE’S DRUG OR ALCOHOL USE?

In recent years at Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource we have become aware that we have supported very few carers of people who misuse drugs and alcohol.  We were concerned that there were far more people throughout our area who would be in this situation than we had contact with.  We do not know whether carers are unaware of our service, think that we would be unable to help them or are just uncomfortable about approaching us.  As an organisation we have always aimed to offer support and information and to represent people who care for anyone, no matter what their problems.

When we spoke to local organisations working within drug and alcohol support, their concern was also that carers were not supported.  We have been very fortunate in gaining funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to work with those who provide care and support to people who misuse drugs and alcohol.

The Cambridge Centre, a local Drugs and Alcohol Service, is providing training and support to help us to increase our knowledge and expertise in this area.  Stephen Ripley, one of their experienced workers is working with Julie Graves running monthly Drop Ins.

Drop Ins are being held at Scarborough library on Tuesday mornings at 10.30 – 12.30 on
August 23rd, September 27th, October 25th and November 22nd.

Sally Craggs is supporting carers on an individual basis in their own homes or at a community venue.

If this affects you – I hope we can help.
If you know someone in this situation – please tell them about our new service.
