Brunswick Organic Nurseries and Craft Workshops is a charity based in Bishopthorpe on the outskirts of York, running a productive workplace for adults with learning difficulties. We produce organic fruit and vegetables, a wide range of plants in pots, cut and dried flowers, stunning handmade cards and woven goods as well some woodwork products. We also have a team that undertakes gardening in the community.

Several years ago we had to make a decision whether to retail our products or to wholesale. We decided to retail because of the opportunities this offered our users  and because they were saying, loudly and clearly, this is what they wanted. To supplement our own production we started buying-in and selling-on products. Our capacity to produce oranges and bananas for example was limited (despite global warming) but having them helped the sale of our own fruit and vegetables.

Soon we were trading so much we felt it was necessary to set up a wholly owned trading subsidiary as a registered Community Interest Company. ‘Brunswick of York CIC’ was born on the 1st April 2011 to slightly concerned parents!

The shop is open seven days a week from 10am -5pm.
